چکیده
Specific and robust targeting of pathogenic cells would represent a major advance in treatment eye diseases including diabetic retinopathy. In article number 2000181 Rangaramanujam M. Kannan, Elia J. Duh co-workers use the corticosteroid triamcinolone conjugated to surface PAMAM-dendrimers, which are tree-like branching polymeric nanoparticles. This dendrimer-triamcinolone conjugate selectively targets activated, amoeboid microglia diseased retina, reprogramming them quiescent ramified microglia, with resulting neuroprotective effects suppression pathologic retinal angiogenesis. Dendrimer-mediated drug delivery represents promising therapeutic strategy high potency low toxicity. Image credit: Sylvia Heredia

Macrophage Metalloelastase (MMP-12) Deficiency Mitigates Retinal Inflammation and Pathological Angiogenesis in Ischemic Retinopathy
Pathological angiogenesis is a major cause of vision loss in ischemic and inflammatory retinal diseases. Recent evidence implicates macrophage metalloelastase (MMP-12), a macrophage-derived elastinolytic protease in inflammation, tissue remodeling and angiogenesis. However, little is known about the role of MMP-12 in retinal pathophysiology. The present study aims to explore the enzyme's contri...
متن کاملP147: Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction and Neuroinflammation Associated with Cardiac Surgery
One of the incapacitating postoperative morbidities that was seen in all types of surgery is Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD). The elder patients and also cardiac surgery patients (CSPs) are at particular risk. Additionally it was shown that the severity, extension of impairment and the incidence rate of POCD is more in CSPs. POCD is a dementia-like symptoms disorder is characterized ...
متن کاملMicroRNA-145 targeted therapy reduces atherosclerosis.
BACKGROUND MicroRNA are essential posttranscriptional modulators of gene expression implicated in various chronic diseases. Because microRNA-145 is highly expressed in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) and regulates VSMC fate and plasticity, we hypothesized that it may be a novel regulator of atherosclerosis and plaque stability. METHODS AND RESULTS Apolipoprotein E knockout mice (ApoE(-/-)...
متن کاملGinger Extract Reduces Chronic Morphine-Induced Neuroinflammation and Glial Activation in Nucleus Accumbens of Rats
Background: Chronic usage of morphine elicits the production of inflammatory factors by glial cells andinduces neuroinflammation. Ginger (Zingiber Officinale Roscoe) is a medicinal herb that has antiinflammatory properties. It has been reported that ginger shows anti-addictive effects against chronic usageof morphine; however, its influence o...
متن کاملN-CAM Exhibits a Regulatory Function in Pathological Angiogenesis in Oxygen Induced Retinopathy
BACKGROUND Diabetic retinopathy and retinopathy of prematurity are diseases caused by pathological angiogenesis in the retina as a consequence of local hypoxia. The underlying mechanism for epiretinal neovascularization (tuft formation), which contributes to blindness, has yet to be identified. Neural cell adhesion molecule (N-CAM) is expressed by Müller cells and astrocytes, which are in close...
